MOA vs MRAD - Made Easy {101 }

Looking for an explanation between the two? Not looking to be totally confused a leave felling like you need degree in quantum physics? I'm glade you stopped by then.

MOA and MRAD are pretty easy to understand once you get the basics. There both just units of measure.

MOA Method

1 MOA at 100 yards equals 1.047 inches, To calculate MOA just multiply 1.047 by the distance in yards then divide by 100.

MRAD Method There are 3.4377 MOA per mil. At 100 yards, 3.4377 MOA equals 3.599 inches (3.4377 x 1.047) so one mil equals 3.6 inches at 100 yards.

Pretty simple and easy right!!

But which one is the better choice? The simple answer is you can't go wrong with either one, but here are some of the differences. Most MOA scopes are measured in 1/4 clicks whereas MRAD is measured as 0.1 MRAD per click. It breaks down to about 1/4 inch per click at 100 yards (MOA) verses 1/3 inch per click at 100 yards (MRAD), when going out to 1000 yards its 2.6 inches per click verses 3.6 inches. It's the total amount of elevation or windage you get with 1 click of the turret. So what does all this monkey business boil down to? The MOA scope provides finer adjustment and relative ease when making approximations at shorter distances, remember one MOA equals about 1 inch at 100 yards. MRAD is more coarse, but that also means it will take fewer clicks to get on target at greater distance. The best thing to do is find one you're comfortable with, and stick to it. Trying to jump back and forth can be confusing.
